In a letter addressed to president Jean-Claude Juncker VIB urges the European Commission to end the regulatory uncertainty surrounding genome edited organisms as soon as possible.
The rapid adoption of CRISPR/Cas technology has turned this into a pressing issue. Many different types of genome edited organisms are currently starting to pile up in laboratories all over Europe. While in other parts of the world the first products of genome editing are going to be introduced commercially, Europe is starting to lag behind. VIB holds a strong plea for ending the regulatory uncertainty and enabling the responsible use of genome edited organisms for the benefit of the European society.
