During his PhD, Frederik Coppens studied leaf development in Arabidopsis thaliana and gradually shifted from the wet lab to bioinformatics. He mostly worked with expression data: from qPCR, over microarrays to sequencing. As a post-doc, Frederik continued in bioinformatics and set up an RNA-seq workflow in his department.
Currently he is Project Leader, Applied Bioinformatics and Biostatistics at the Department of Plant Systems Biology, UGent. There he coordinates the different projects and provides consultancy for bioinformatics. Recently, Frederik is also managing IT at his department, aiming to even better align informatics and bioinformatics. His team is setting up a Belgian ELIXIR node, in which he is Technical Coordinator.
