Dirk Inzé appointed to the ERC Scientific Council

The European Commission has appointed five new members to the European Research Council's (ERC) governing body. This Scientific Council consists out of Europe's top scientists and is instrumental in determining our scientific future. Prof. Dirk Inzé (VIB-UGent Center for Plant Systems Biology) is one of the ERC Scientific Council's new members.

The ERC
The European Research Council (ERC) is Europe's main funding agency for scientific research. All researchers working in Europe are eligible for its competitive grants. The sole criterion for selection is scientific excellence.
The Scientific Council, the governing body of the European Research Council, defines the ERC's scientific funding strategy and methodologies. These scientists and scholars represent the scientific community in Europe and are appointed following recommendations by an independent Identification Committee.

The future of science
Prof. Dirk Inzé, science director of the VIB-UGent Center for Plant Systems Biology, has been selected to join the Scientific Council of the ERC. Prof. Inzé's work on understanding the mechanisms underlying crop yield is world-leading, and his team uses their insights to guarantee and improve global food production in a changing global environment.
As part of the Scientific Council, he will shape the future of European science.

Congratulations, Dirk!
